Shingle Springs
Butch & Linda's
late afternoon - early evening
still very warm
sky's bluer than it's been all day, but pretty smoky
No clouds, no wind
Little birds squeak and trill and tweet
One sounds like a squirrel
Family reunion day but most of the family has headed back to their respective homes now - just a few of us are still here and we'll head home after dinner -
It's funny but it doesn't seem like we've been coming up here for reunions for very long - until I look at pictures of the kids from those first few years - they were just tiny toddlers and it's been more than ten years -
We've had lots of family picnics, barbeques & egg hunts under this tree and eaten around this old table many times - I'm not sure how many little cousins have swung on the swing - babies to preteens - then it's not cool anymore.
A woodpecker knocks unseen somewhere nearby - then hops around a trunk of a closer oak, then is gone again - sort of like the swift passage of time -
