oak grove park

7.29.08
9 a.m.
Oak Grove Park, Davis
w/ Dr Harding & Ruth - oak id

So not an oak - but Chinaberry - very similar to Texas Umbrella Tree, except for growth habit - both melia azerdarach.

Chinaberry

Coast Live Oak - leaves more cupped than Interior Live Oak - have "hairy armpits" in veins on underside of leaf.

Coast Live Oak

I'm learning that tree identification is not really such a hard science - alot to interpret, especially with trees like oaks that readily hybridize -

(Click to see leaf pages bigger)

Q. wislizeni = Interior Live Oak

Later identified by Dr Harding as Laurel Oak

Bur Oak

Bur Oak - Texas native doing very well in the park here -

English Oak

Holly Oak & Southern Live Oak
